No better example of why Oklahoma is attractive for drilling is the recent rise of the Anadarko Woodford, in particular the two plays that have dominated activity in the state in recent years, the SCOOP (South Central Oklahoma Oil Province) and the STACK (Sooner Trend Anadarko Canadian Kingfisher).

The above chart shows how the Anadarko Woodford has not only been the bright spot in the state’s drilling business during the downturn, it is the certainly the driver for Oklahoma pacing the state’s gains in footage per horizontal well over the past 3 years, topping all other major drilling markets with a gain of +17% in that time span.

Local efforts to tweak the state’s gross production tax regime could enable Anadarko Woodford operators to build even further on those gains, according to Platts RigData RADAR Report.
