HOUSTON (October 9, 2017) - Platts RigData, a forecasting and analytics unit of S&P Global Platts, today announced the U.S. rig count for September 2017 was 1,043, down 28 (3%) from August 2017, and up 460 (79%) from September 2016. This rig count includes U.S. onshore, U.S. inland waters, and U.S. offshore Gulf of Mexico drilling rigs.
- September U.S. land rig count: 1,002, down 25 (2%) from the previous month and up 457 (84%) from September 2016
- September U.S. inland waters and Gulf of Mexico rig count: 41, down 3 (7%) from the previous month and up 3 (8%) from September 2016
“The slack in the rig count for U.S. land activity was heavily influenced by weather during September,” said Trey Cowan, senior industry analyst, Platts RigData, an analytics unit of S&P Global Platts. “I would not be surprised if next month’s count firms toward levels seen in August, prior to the storms, as producers play a little catchup.”
